Production Blog - Finishing Touches

Image
Hello, once again blog. This is about editing up the film. Hard work had to be done to ensure it looks good. There was some blurred editing that we had in the film. At first we didn't know why. Nico saw that the editing program was altering the clips automatically. This only happened in darkened scenes. Because of this, some of the shots looked very weird. To fix it, he turned off the setting that was causing it. This did luckily resolve the issue, and we were rid of the behaved blurry vision. Another problem we faced was that the audios were too low. When we tried to increase the volume, other scenes became way too loud. The background audio sounded wrong too in some scenes. It was very annoying and big issue we couldn't ignore. Finally, we decided that we bring down all of the sounds to one level. This used a particular mono-sound setting in the app. This actually seemed to fix things overall. This was basically the largest issue we found in the final editing. Thankfully, it ...

Production Blog - Editing

Image
Hello blog, it's Tom here. We have finally finished shooting! In fact, we've shot several makeup scenes already. Everything is starting to fit together very nicely.  Today has been filled with editing, which was quite long and tiring. First of all, we had to transfer all the footage to an editing program. We will be using Adobe since Nico's mom has it for her work. Luckily enough, it has already been paid for before. Usually, it is pretty expensive, and it is nice that we can use it without having to pay for it. Once we managed to insert all the footage in, we just began to put the clips in order and cut the unnecessary little bits. Then, we had to write a text, simply the title, which took a while longer than expected. Some transitions were particularly difficult to get smooth. We had to adjust them over and over. We tried a couple of effects that we thought would highlight certain scenes. The work was tiring, but seeing the film come together made it all worthwhile. I r...

Production Blog - Make-up Day

Image
Hello blog. Today we wanted to start editing. We ran into and issue before we could even start though. We had missed a couple clips. We wanted to just leave them out initially. We felt they were needed for the final product. We needed to clear our schedules first though. Nico had SAT studying and Nat had work. They had to make arrangement to get out of them. It took some time but we could now get the parts we needed. After we would be able to edit. This would leave us very close to being done for the video. We started by heading to Nico's house one last time. We needed a ride but luckily Benjamin had his car and was able to take us all in it. We started filming after setting up all or equipment again. We reviewed the scenes we needed. They weren't huge scenes but needed to show the after-effects of the crash. We finished late in the afternoon and began packing up. There was a lot of clean-up needed to leave Nico's house ready. Once done we left with everything and Ben dropp...

Production Blog - Second Day Filming

Image
Hello blog. Today we continued filming our video. We already got a considerable amount of work done. Yester day we started with the filming before the crash. This included a decent amount of scenes. One was the Office scene, which we did in Nico's house. We also filmed some driving scenes as we needed to have both cars when we did it. We completed those films, and started planning for today. We wanted to film the scenes for the rest of the movie and get it over with. Doing this would allow us more time for editing. We needed one bigger scene and some other side parts. The biggest thing was the crash. Without crashing, we needed to recreate a realistic crash between the office worker and partyer roles. We wanted to accomplish this through a bit of practical effects and lots of editing. We first got a background video to overlap the cars onto. We then got both cars driving to the same space. We did them individually. This would allows us to later combine clips with the editing softwa...

Production Blog - Starting to Film

Image
Hi blog. Today we started filming. We wanted to mostly focus on a set of scenes. The scenes were leading up to the crash. There were quite a lot of these. We bean in the office. As set before, this was inside Nico's house. He has a nice office and lots of supplies. The supplies could be used as props for the film. We also had all necessary safety being within his home. When we started filming, we had an issue though. The lighting inside the office wasn't the right brightness for what we wanted. It was a little too cool and bright, while we needed a bit of a darker mood. We ended up with an idea. We decided to use a phone camera instead to create the illusion of a moodier room. This helped with the atmosphere significantly. After this we wanted to do some of the driving scenes. The car we need was Nico's and Ben's for each character. We used these as they fit the characters personalities more closely in our story. We had all the safety on hand and Nico's parents ther...

Production Blog - Weather Issues

Image
We were finally ready to begin filming. We had everything ready and our schedules matched up. We had everything prepared to start on it and work as much as possible. But unfortunately, we got a ton of rain. We had of course checked the weather in advance, but it was wrong. We had a near zero chance of rain yet were unable to film due to it. We though about just filming in the rain anyways. We didn't mind the rain personally anyways. But many of the scenes would end up better in a nicer weather. Such as the car scene. we have a car with a retractable roof. We were thinking of using that for a scene and in the rain, that wouldn't work very well. It also wouldn't be great for safety. We would need to drive in the rain, with a slippery road. Nobody felt very good about that either. The car and equipment we use could be damaged by the rain. Although all the possible incidents are unlikely, we would rather not take the risk. Since we would use the drone, it could be damaged or ev...

Production Blog - Locations

Image
This blog is about our shooting locations. Initially, we thought it would be rather nice to vary locations. It is apparent that we need a quiet place that is either isolated or private to film in. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be an easy task. To narrow down our search, we think of spots in our area. The suggestions came pouring in, but somehow, none of them seemed fitting. My dad's office can do for the office scene, but then again, the trip might be just too much of a hassle for such a short scene. For car scenes, any quiet street off a main road will do, so just about any neighborhood should be fine. Nathaly mentioned some places, but I felt it would be a real stretch of the imagination to fit into the ideas of the film. Nicolas's backyard would be perfect for the party scene; it is spacious and perfect for parties. It’s also conveniently located, which makes it a practical choice for everyone involved. Timing is a factor for all of us, so it is time that matters. If...

Production Blog - Sounds

Image
Hi again! This day we started finding the sounds we needed for our film. We have many sounds but one was the most interesting to get. The sound for the car crash. We needed a way to simulate the sound of a car crash. We of course can't really crash cars and we wanted to do it as close as possible. The best way we can make it is with the sounds we already have around us and some editing. We had Benjamin work to figure it out for the most part. We also helped pitch a lot of ideas. One was to Use some metal or cans to make a loud clashing sound. We believed the effect of metal on metal would be similar to a car on car. That turned out to be the best idea we could come up with for that. We had some others sounds to recreate too though. For one the office sounds. I had an idea for that one that we picked. My keyboard is loud and we could overlay it on top of each other. It might take some editing but it wouldn't be too hard. The final sound we needed was a siren for the ambulance. W...

Production Blog - Getting our materials

Image
Hello, it's Tom once again. This day we needed to figure out another important thing to our filming process. We needed to arrange who was getting each material we needed. We mostly decided based on one thing. We used our roles in the movie. The roles would help decide what we each should get for it. We also had another reason to assign something. If one of us already had the item needed. That would be the easiest to get everything we could need for the filming process. One was how Benjamin, the drunk driver already had  a car we could use. This fit his role very well and made it easy. We needed another car though for the second driver. The one who could provide that was Nicolas. We needed it for the fake collision. Of course they wouldn't really hit as to not be dangerous. That would also be expensive for repairs so of course we couldn't do that. We also needed outfits for each of us. For my suit, Nicolas said he could get his hands on one. We could also use some fake blood...

Production Blog - Scheduling

Image
Hi, its Tom again. When we were beginning with this we realized there was something important that needed to get done. We needed to set a schedule to work, and urgently. As a group we all have very different times we can work. With our differing schedules we had to set some days we could all meet together. We first thought it would be easy to decide but we soon realized how busy we really were. With work from other classes and predetermined plans, it kept being harder. The time frames that could work were disappearing no matter what we thought about. We kept having no luck in coordinating our schedules. As Nicolas had lots of preplanned sat prep for later, it was very difficult for him to have free time, especially more than the others. Although he was difficult, Ben also always had plans for the weekend and was difficult to account for. Nathaly had work many day and also was complicated. We decided on one week that could work for all of us. We had to clear our schedules out for it and...
